Teenager in DUI crash at Pecos & Stewart

This past Saturday morning in the Las Vegas Valley, three individuals were injured in a three-vehicle crash. According to Metro Police, alcohol is suspect. An un-named 17 year old Las Vegas male was driving a 1993 Honda Accord at high speeds Saturday morning when he crossed over into oncoming traffic. His car spun around and hit a 2007 Mazda CX-7 which was being driven by a 68 year old woman, Sharon Edmondson. At this point, both vehicles spun into the path of a 2008 Ford Taurus being driven by 51 year old Doel Rojas. The teenager ran from the scene of the crime but was captured and arrested by Metro. The two victims of the crash were taken to be treated for injuries at UMC. Metro continues to investigate, and highly suspects alcohol was involved. Seattle Seahawks former tight end Stevens serves a Month in Jail for DUI

Stevens was stopped last January in Manhattan Beach, California, after he was found driving the U.S. women’s soccer team van (his wife is goalie Hope Solo) with the lights off. After his recent sentencing, Stevens began serving his time. 35-year-old Stevens had pleaded no contest to DUI charges. His blood alcohol content was over twice the legal limit. Solo had been riding in the front seat of the van and allegedly been combative with officers after they were pulled over. This is not the first DUI conviction for Stevens. He served a previous month in jail in 2007 after being pulled over there. He will now be required to enter a two-year alcohol program and be placed on probation for four years. Las Vegas Law Enforcement is being accused of being “money hungry” when it comes to its approach to misdemeanor warrants.

Las Vegas Law Enforcement is being accused of being “money hungry” when it comes to its approach to misdemeanor warrants.

Critics claim that the collect-at-all-costs mentality places a high emphasis on traffic ticket revenue and is most likely to hurt minority defendants who fail to pay speeding tickets, while leaving more serious offenders roaming the streets. Former Las Vegas Marshal Richard Kilgore said the court rewards officers who bring in the most money and offers additional training and promotions to marshals who “negotiate court-ordered bail amounts with scofflaws in the field.” Those who do not, he said, find themselves out of luck. “Officers like myself would get denied training, get stuck in court more,” Kilgore added. “That’s where I thought (marshals) were supposed to be. I’ve always thought that we’re not there to generate revenue, we’re there to enforce court orders and uphold the decorum of the court.” Another critic, Court Administrator Dana Hlavac, added, “I’m not going to force people to pay money they can’t pay just so we can keep running our business,” he added. Records obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal via Nevada’s public records law display that the Las Vegas Municipal Court collected nearly $130 million — 89 percent of its total revenue — from traffic violations over the past five years. The majority of that was taken in by speeding tickets or other moving violations.   Do you have a Las Vegas Traffic Ticket you would like reduced to no points, no school, no traffic school?  Call today for a Free Consultation at (702)...
