Another DUI Accident in Las Vegas

Another DUI Accident in Las Vegas

Each year, far too many individuals are killed or seriously injured as a result of DUI accidents in Southern Nevada. Most recently reported, a man suspected of driving while under the influence crashed into a motorcycle, badly injuring the rider. The rider, upon being hit, was thrown violently into the road and lay there suffering until he was taken to University Medical Center to be treated for his injuries. The driver who was the cause of the DUI collision, and who was also suspected of speeding, was 29 year old Anthony Munoz. As if it wasn’t bad enough that Munoz was speeding, driving drunk, and hit a motorcycle, Munoz also fled the scene of the accident. He eventually lost control of his Kia Sorento and drove off the road, where he and a passenger attempted to flee on foot until officers caught them. Munoz was arrested on counts of driving under the influence and hit-and-run. “Click It or Ticket”: Strong Message for Non-Seatbelt wearers in Las Vegas, Memorial Day Weekend

“Click It or Ticket” If you aren’t in the habit of protecting your life by buckling up every time you sit down in a motor vehicle, you better form that habit fast! The death rate is rising for non-seatbelt wearing vehicle occupants, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In 2012 alone, over 10,000 individuals were involved in fatal crashes; the saddest part of this statistic is that their lives may have been saved if they had simply chosen to buckle up. The Nevada Highway Patrol is rightly upset with the amount of fatalities due to careless mistakes such as these, and as a result, they are once again cracking down on seatbelt laws by issuing more Las Vegas seatbelt tickets. Specifically, from May 19-June 1, the NHP will be gently reminding people to buckle up with their 2014 “Click It or Ticket” campaign. What does that mean to you? Well, you better buckle up in Las Vegas on Memorial Day Weekend because law enforcement will be amply present on the roads… and ready to write you a ticket for not obeying the law. For more information on the “Click It or Ticket” campaign, you may visit www.nhtsa.gov/ciot. Crackdown on DUIs in Henderson

Even as the Holiday season slowly fades into memory, DUI checkpoints continue to pop up all across town. This is due to the large amount of fatal accidents that occur here in the valley, all year round. Even though DUI checkpoints like the one on Blue Diamond road have been keeping motorists alert and are helping to stop irresponsible drivers from harming innocent people, unfortunately, there was still an enormous spike in DUI incidents over the past year in Southern Nevada. In Henderson alone, hundreds of people were injured or killed last year while driving under the influence. Over major holiday weekends, such as Labor Day or New Years, the Henderson police Department sets up key DUI checkpoints, like the one on Blue Diamond road, or a similar check point at St. Rose Parkway and Eastern Avenue, where thousands of drivers are stopped. Police are able to take into custody anyone who is breaking Nevada’s DUI laws at that time. If you were recently arrested for a dui in las vegas,  whether it was for drinking, illegal drug use, or the use of prescription pills, the Law Office of Mark Coburn is here to help you stay out of jail, avoid the maximum penalties, and keep the cleanest record possible.
