Teenager in DUI crash at Pecos & Stewart

This past Saturday morning in the Las Vegas Valley, three individuals were injured in a three-vehicle crash. According to Metro Police, alcohol is suspect. An un-named 17 year old Las Vegas male was driving a 1993 Honda Accord at high speeds Saturday morning when he crossed over into oncoming traffic. His car spun around and hit a 2007 Mazda CX-7 which was being driven by a 68 year old woman, Sharon Edmondson. At this point, both vehicles spun into the path of a 2008 Ford Taurus being driven by 51 year old Doel Rojas. The teenager ran from the scene of the crime but was captured and arrested by Metro. The two victims of the crash were taken to be treated for injuries at UMC. Metro continues to investigate, and highly suspects alcohol was involved. In addition to the large number of tickets distributed, officers also issued 72 warnings. Officers stated that the goal of these two days of mega-ticket-issuing was to target drivers who did NOT yield properly for pedestrians, as well as to target pedestrians who did NOT cross properly. How Much will your Speeding or Reckless Driving Ticket Cost?

How Much will your Speeding or Reckless Driving Ticket Cost?

Do you like to speed? Many of us do. Almost 40%, in fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. To quote, 39% of drivers “enjoy the feeling of speed.” Well, the thrill aside, there can be some unhappy consequences to speeding– such as receiving a Las Vegas Traffic Ticket, hiked insurance rates, and in even more grave situations: an accident. A recent study conducted by a third party organization took statistics from all 50 states in order to see what the average fines were associated with various Traffic Tickets. The sample driver was a 35 year old man with good credit and no previous accidents over the past five years. Here are the findings: 1. Speeding in a School Zone Average Fine: starts around $200-$500 with additional costs for higher speeds. Average Insurance Hike: almost 19% 2. Littering From a Vehicle Average Fine: anywhere between $100-$1000 for the first offense. Average Insurance Hike: about 11% 3. Reckless Driving This is where things get tricky… and expensive. Here are some details for Nevada. The punishment for reckless driving in Nevada includes eight (8) demerit points added to your drivers’ license as well as possible high fines and incarceration. Misdemeanor reckless driving charges are brought in cases where no death or injury resulted: for a first offense, $250 to $1,000, for a second offense, $1,000 to $1,500, or for a third offense, $1,500 to $2,000. Felony Reckless Driving: A driver may be charged with felony reckless driving in Nevada if prosecutors believe that the driver’s recklessness was the “proximate cause” of the death or substantial bodily harm of someone else. It is...

Seattle Seahawks former tight end Stevens serves a Month in Jail for DUI

Stevens was stopped last January in Manhattan Beach, California, after he was found driving the U.S. women’s soccer team van (his wife is goalie Hope Solo) with the lights off. After his recent sentencing, Stevens began serving his time. 35-year-old Stevens had pleaded no contest to DUI charges. His blood alcohol content was over twice the legal limit. Solo had been riding in the front seat of the van and allegedly been combative with officers after they were pulled over. This is not the first DUI conviction for Stevens. He served a previous month in jail in 2007 after being pulled over there. He will now be required to enter a two-year alcohol program and be placed on probation for four years. Nevada Taxicab Authority says “NO” to Discuss Uber

Hours after calling a meeting to consider a defined stance on the regulation of Uber here in Las Vegas, the Nevada Taxicab Authority canceled the meeting. Ileana Drobkin is chair of the board that regulates Clark County’s 16 taxi companies. Remember: The state Attorney General’s Office, representing the Nevada Transportation Authority, took Uber to court after last November (when Uber wanted to begin a branch here in Las Vegas). NTA claimed Uber operations unlicensed and unsafe, and Washoe County Judge Scott Freeman issued a temporary injunction that prevented Uber from opening anywhere in Nevada. So what’s the future for Uber in Nevada? Why does nearly every major city in America have access to Uber but the place that arguably could benefit the most from it is unable to take advantage of its services? Could it have to do with the amount of power taxi companies have in this city? Or is is strict regulations in the industry? To Note: Nevada’s taxi and limousine regulations are among the strictest in the nation, and Last year alone, over $390 million in fares were spent on Las Vegas taxi rides. Also, in Las Vegas, the taxi industry is regulated at the state level by a board of appointed officials insulated from direct lobbying. “There’s nothing prohibiting them from operating here. They simply need to go to the taxi authority and make an application like every other provider in the industry has done,” Jonathan Schwartz, director at Yellow Checker Star, said about ridesharing companies such as San Fran based Uber. “If they just started operating, it would be...
Teenager Seriously Injured in Las Vegas DUI Crash

Teenager Seriously Injured in Las Vegas DUI Crash

Last Friday, a DUI crash in Las Vegas left a teenager seriously injured. The teenager is 18 year old Tyler Farmer. The woman suspected of a DUI was 46 year old Cynthia Lorenz, who was booked at Clark County Detention Center where she faces the DUI charges. Lorenz was reported to be driving a 2003 Toyota Avalon at approximately 7:45 p.m. when she crossed over the double yellow lines and struck the vehicle in which Tyler Farmer was passenger. The 17 year old driver of the car (who will remain unnamed) swerved to try to avoid the crash, but the car was unfortunately hit on the passenger’s side, where Farmer was sitting. Patrol Car Hits Man then Fines Him for Jaywalking

Patrol Car Hits Man then Fines Him for Jaywalking

It didn’t happen here in Vegas, yet, but a few states up & over in Washington, a police officer hit two people with his car who were crossing the street illegally (the “do not walk” sign was on). The officer will face no punishment AND the injured pair were each fined $112 and found at fault. The pair had been crossing the street in rainy weather at about 1 a.m. and did not see any cars approaching, according to Washington State Patrol spokesman Mark Francis. The man struck landed on the hood of the police car before rolling off. His leg and neck were injured. The woman was also struck and was bleeding from the head. The emergency lights were not activated on the police car during the incident. “Both of us were wrong. He should have seen us, and we shouldn’t have jaywalked,” Lauren Keenan, the injured woman, reported to The Bellingham Herald newspaper. “But we had to suffer pain, we had to suffer injuries, and we had to suffer loss of work.” Perhaps it is understandable that the officer did not receive punishment for this incident… but to fine & ticket the injured pair seems a bit much, doesn’t it? What Las Vegas Traffic Tickets do you have unpaid? A friendly reminder: all unpaid tickets can go into Warrant, and you can be arrested and put in jail at any time. 22 Las Vegas Residents Arrested during Gang Crackdown

22 Las Vegas Residents Arrested during Gang Crackdown

Earlier this month, 22 Las Vegas residents were arrested (along with 1,000 other alleged gang members) during a nation-wide crackdown. The crackdown was titled “Project Wildfire” and led by ICE’s Homeland Security Investigation. It ran from February 23rd until March 31st of this year. ICE Director Sarah R. Saldana is reported saying, “Criminal gangs inflict violence and fear upon our communities and without the attention of law enforcement, these groups can spread like a cancer… That’s why ICE works with law enforcement partners around the country to stamp out gang activity wherever it takes place.” Special agents teamed together with hundreds of local law enforcement partners to carry out “Project Wildfire.” In addition to the arrests, over 80 firearms were seized. Out of the nearly 1,000 gang members or associates arrested for offenses, over 900 of them were charged with Criminal Offenses. Are you facing freedom-threatening Criminal Defense Charges?
